After some time you may notice that your internet speed is slow and is getting slower day by day. This is natural and happens too everyone. Hopefully after putting the advice from this intel into use, your speeds will get back to how they were at the beginning. 1. This is so simple that you should be doing this already. But for those that don't, DO BASIC MAINTENANCE ON YOUR COMPUTER.
Run Disk Defrag. This program is built into Windows, simply go to All Programs > Accessories > System Tools and there it is : Disk Defragmenter.
This program will make the files on your computer (hard drive) closer together - but this has no change on your actual files. It simply means Windows can run quicker as the files are together.
Do a virus scan. There are many Anti-Virus programs out there but anything like Kapersky, Avast or BitDefender are fine. Now in these programs you can set it to automatically update their virus definitions database. But you do need to SCAN YOUR COMPUTER REGULARLY. Just choose to scan all your computer and just walk away. BitDefender will find most of the latest viruses and spyware.
Having a clean computer matters greatly to make it work well. But as well as having an anti-virus, an anti-spyware is recommended. SpyBot Search and Destroy is one of the most simplest and efficient anti-spyware programs.
These two programs will pretty much ensure a clean computer.
There is one more addition to this. USB Drives are now available that have an anti-virus on them. This is great as anti-virus/spyware software can slow your computer down, and by having a USB drive that you can plug in and scan your computer is definitely worth having a look at. Ask at your local computer shop for more information on these USB drives.
In summary, scan your computer regularly to ensure it works quickly, as you download as fast as your computer is.
2. Sometimes your internet connection can seem slow as your modem/hub is overused. The answer to this is to RESET YOUR MODEM. This can hugely increase your internet speed.
Simply turn your computer and modem off, wait about a minute and then reconnect everything. You should now have an increase in speed. But this should only be done if your modem has been on for a long time, otherwise it has no great effect.
Another quick little tip would be to have anti-virus on your master computer and from that scan your network. (if you have one).
3. If you have a wireless network in your house, make sure it is a really fast router. Without confusing you, G+ routers are usually fast enough.
4. An important one that nobody pays attention to is your ISP. If you are experiencing a slow internet connection, check your ISP's website to see if there are connection problems in your area. This often happens because of building work etc. This is something you should definitely consider.
5. The last tip is to see if your wiring is done properly. Rubbish wires can lead to a slow internet, so check that your wires are good and you should also replace your internet cables after about a year. New wires do give you good speeds but to keep this you should keep them connected properly and replace if there is a problem.
As a quick note : Try to keep your computer free of junk and relatively clutter free. This is because a cluttered computer can cause slow computer and internet speed.
As an extra tip : Download, install and run CCleaner regualrly. This is a great program that cleans your computer in the major and minute areas. This freeing of space does help.
After implementing these tips you should notice an increase in your internet speed. Remember to keep this practice and not stop doing it or you'll soon be back to slow speeds.
