A healthy, tasty treat for your cat

Easy Healthy Kitty Treats Kids Can Make

Your kids will enjoy making this treat as much as your cat will enjoy eating them! Here are the ingredients needed:

1 can of tuna or chicken, drained (6 oz)
1/4 cup flour (whole wheat is ideal)
1/4 cup cornmeal
1/4 cup wheat germ
1 Tablespoon oil (olive or flax is best)
1 egg

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

You can use a mixing spoon, but it's more fun to use your hands to mix all the above ingredients together and shape into a ball, and flatten it out onto a cookie sheet. No need to grease the cookie sheet, but I like to use parchment paper, it makes clean up a snap.

Roll out with a rolling pin (or press out with your hands-you may not want to use your rolling pin on tuna fish!) to about 1/8" thickness. Using a pizza cutter, cut into 1/2 inch strips, then cut across the strips making little squares or diamonds.
Bake for 10-15 minutes or until crispy. Let cool.

You will want to store these in the refrigerator or freezer in a ziploc bag or airtight container. You could also get creative and put some in a cute container as a Christmas gift for a cat lover. Be sure to include a note with the ingredients and to remember to keep them refrigerated.

You won't want to give your kitty too many of these, they might not want their normal food! My kids have fun "talking" to our cats when they want one of these treats. Every time they open the refrigerator when our cat is in the kitchen, our cat will meow for a treat, so the kids play with the kitty by saying, "What do you want?" Our kitty has no problem letting them know exactly what he wants as many times as asked!
