A new generation of Cruise Liner
Recently the first of a new generation of cruise liners built for the UK market was completed. The “Ventura” owned by P&0 weighing 116,000 tons and costing £300,000 million to build was launched at Southampton by the British actress Dame Helen Mirren.
Built in Italy the ship has a total of 15 decks containing a total of 1,546 cabins with 1,100 offering outside views and 880 equipped with balconies. This ship offers some fantastic onboard facilities, including a London West End style theatre, a 3D cinema and a rock-climbing wall.
Truly an impressive ship by any standards it is likely to soon be eclipsed by an even larger ship planned for launch in 2009 by Royal Caribbean, one of two in the pipeline. The “Genesis” will be a leviathan among cruise liners weighing in at 220,000 tons and boasting a length of 1,180 feet with a height of 240 feet.
One of the most incredible new features planned includes a tropical park, which will be built inside the centre of the ship, with cabins offering balcony views overlooking it. The park with a built in microclimate control will come complete with tropical trees standing at least two decks high and passengers will be able to stroll through it at their leisure.
Other special features planned include bowling alleys and outdoor nightclubs as well as a large selection of pools throughout the ship. The “Genesis” will be able to accommodate 5,400 passengers, who will be able to experience luxury as yet unparalleled in the cruise market. These ships will take the ever-popular cruise experience up to the next level in sheer unadulterated enjoyment and luxury for many people.
