The Age of Information Consumes Me
The age of information is in full force these days. I really never thought about that up until recently. Why? I just processed information on a daily basis, and didn't put much thought into what was going on. With email marketing, banner marketing, popup marketing, internet marketing and all other forms of marketing you don't realize just how much information one person processes in a day.
I know there is probably some statistician or scientist out there who has completed a study on this exact concept, but this is just my rundown on this issue. I receive probably 100 or more emails per day. That is just email.
I peruse websites all day while conducting business online, shopping, researching, etc. There is no telling how many banners and advertisements I view per day. On top of that how many headlines do I view per day? I really don't know. I have usually lost count by lunchtime. If I happen to be in my car, how many advertisements do I hear? or see on TV for that matter?
When it comes to things like email marketing, I rarely give any particular email more attention than the time it takes to read the subject line. Can you imagine having to read all of the content sent in all 100 emails or more I receive per day? That would be a very daunting task, even for a speed reader, of which I am not.
I wouldn't get anything done if I did that. That shows you how important a subject line can be in email marketing. This is also true for the first 10 seconds of a radio advertisement or TV spot. If it doesn't grab my attention, then I am off to another station or channel, not to hear an ad, but to hear more music or watch another show never paying any more attention to what the radio announcer was lying to me about.
Yes. I believe they lie.
There are only so many DJ's that can lose weight on Simply Weight Loss at the same time, in multiple markets. Give me a break. That should be false advertising. At the very least, misleading advertising. Anyways, back to what I was originally talking about.
Why am I bringing this up? Well, the other day I received an email from a friend that mentioned laughing (his words were ROTFLMAO) at a "cup of tea" comment, that I had made. Naturally, I was glad that someone found my weird off beat humor funny... but I had absolutely zero clues as to what he was talking about.
I pretty much emailed him back saying, "I'm glad it made you laugh, but could you send me what you are talking about?". The age of information is so dominant that I can't even keep track of my own conversations anymore. I do know this conversation took place less than a few days ago, so it wasn't something I said months ago or anything like that.
I am interested to hear some feedback. Has anyone else had this problem? Or did I party too hard in college? Then again, maybe I just need an administrative assistant to help me process all this information, or at least my conversations.
Of course then I would be like Charlie Wilson in Charlie Wilson's War. I would be asking things like, "Did I say that?" or "Am I doing this?". I wonder how many Administrative Assitants are the real brains behind CEO's and Executives.

Contributor's Note
Information can be so overwhelming sometimes. Please leave some comments and let me know if you have this same problem. Maybe it will make me feel better about not remembering one of my own conversations.
