The Alfa Romeo car company has been creating memorable cars for century. The image of its elegant form and the purr of its engine have certainly earned it a place in motorcar history.

Racy Beginnings

From its inception the Alpha Romeo took part in racing competitions and enjoyed great success. Between 1931 and 1934 the 8C 2300 Torpedo earned itself a reputation on the tracks. It had an 8 cylinder, 20 to 30 hp two-piece engine which drove it to winning the Targa Florio competition. Other models, such as the Le Mans, Spider and Monza also took top honors on the track. A total of 188 of these cars were produced during this period.

The Here and Now

Modern Alfa Romeos are just as sleek and stylish as their predecessors. The Alfa 147 was awarded the 2000 “Golden Steering Wheel”, the most prestigious German prize in the compact car category. It later became Car of the Year in 2001.

From racing cars to sporty family cars the GTA Sportwagon gives drivers the room they need for everyday driving but doesn’t skimp on the speed thanks to a power output of 250 bhp at 6400 rpm. This model was released in February of 2002 and is still selling well.

In keeping with their ability to blend practical with performance the newer Crosswagon Q4 takes this combination and adds a V6 engine and a lighter body thanks to a fiber hood. From a racing legend to a sporty family car the Alpha Romeo proves it can adapt to the consumer’s needs and still keep true to the features that made it a legend.
