Be Careful With Acronyms

When writing topics, articles, essays or any other piece of written work please be careful when using acronyms.

There are many articles/ blogs etc full of acronyms that the reader has no idea of their meaning. It is most frustrating to be reading something of interest only to come across acronyms that have no explanation. Time has to be spent searching for the meaning, and interest can easily be lost.

Therefore, when considering the use of an acronym, or abbreviation, do it like this:

The British Broadcasting Corporation ( BBC ) is based in London, England.

Thereafter, it is fine to use 'BBC' in the rest of the text.

You would be surprised at the number of people who lose interest in a website, blog etc that is full of meaningless acronyms.

Contributor's Note

I am one of the people who cannot understand why people expect their readers to be familiar with unexplained acronyms.
