I resent all the to-do and negative comments that have been made regarding Senator Obama’s “bitter” statement and “folk clinging on to their faith (and guns) because they don’t have anything else to hold onto” statement. Let me set MY record straight. I am most definitely BITTER and even RESENTFUL of how things are in this country. Here are some of the reasons why. 1.) I don’t trust the government because it’s corrupt beyond repair.
.) I don’t trust the justice system because it rarely works and isn't just.
.) Religion doesn’t work (consider all of those young boys who were sexually abused by their priests, teachers and leaders in the Catholic Church), but my PERSONAL FAITH in God does work.
.) I can’t depend on law enforcement to protect me at the given time I need them, but I can protect myself in the presence of eminent danger with my own registered firearm.
.) I don’t trust corporations and big businesses or the CEOs who run them because they’re all a bunch of self-serving bigots, venomous liars, ruthless bandits and malicious persecutors who have sold out the United States of America to foreign countries for the sole purpose of their own personal gain and NOT the good of this country and its people.
.) I'm bitter about the miniscule wages I’m earning at age 47 and not ever coming close to MY American dream.
.) I’m bitter that I can’t afford to live in (that is pay for my own) safe housing on the meager wages I earn.
.) I’m bitter that my pay continues to NOT keep up with inflation and has failed to do so for more than 2 decades.
.) I’m bitter that the cost of everything has gone up but my paycheck hasn’t.
.) I’m bitter that CEOs of mega corporations can file bankruptcy and it’s acceptable, but a lower class, working-poor, American-born citizen such as myself can't.
.) I’m bitter that CEOs can rob hardworking people of their pensions and livelihoods yet never get justly prosecuted or ever have to pay back what they stole.
.) I’m bitter that my tax dollars are being used to improve the lives of illegal immigrants in this country while my life continuously spirals downward, and I make no progress.
.) I’m bitter that, at 47, I have never owned a home or been on a REAL vacation like the ones my parents used to take my brother and I on when I was young.
.) I'm bitter about the rampant injustices and wrong deeds that still occur in this country against black people, yet society expects me to be in denial of its existence as they and FOX News, MSNBC, CNN, ABC and CBS are.
.) I'm bitter that so many of my black brothers and sisters are incarcerated on false pretenses and unjustly profiled because of the pigment of their skin.
.) I’m bitter that I drive a 20 year old car, need a bigger one for health reasons, but can by no means afford to purchase and insure a new (used) vehicle.
.) I’m bitter because I don’t have any savings and can't save because my paychecks are all spent on day-to-day living expenses with no money left to put to the side (save).
.) I’m bitter that insurance companies dictate to doctors what sort of treatment I am permitted to have for my given ailment rather than the doctor telling the insurance company what I need to cure the ailment I have.
.) I’m bitter because the rich continue to get richer, the poor keep getting poorer and there is no middle class. You either have money or you don't.
.) I’m bitter because I feel trapped, smothered, strangled and powerless to bring about the changes in my life that I need/want to make because I’m weary, exasperated, stressed out, spent, depressed, weighed down and chronically fatigued. I've become cynical and untrusting, and I'm bitter that my heart has waxed so cold to life.
.) I'm bitter because the big powers that be in Washington, DC and the corporations that puppeteer them won't bat an eye to bail out financial institutions when they get in crises but tell hard-working Americans who've lost, or are losing their homes to foreclosures, that they are financially wreckless, gambled in real estate and lost and are unworthy of assistance because it's THEIR fault for making bad financial judgements that got them in over their heads. I say these homebuyers would not have gotten into the predictaments they did if the guilty mortgage lenders using deceptive tactics hadn't been so damn greedy and ruthless. These homebuyers were conned by mortgage-lending loan sharks, and fat cats don't give a damn for the damage done to these average working-class folk.
.) I'm bitter because this country is yet-to-be the United States of America.
Yes, sir, Senator Obama’s statements were absolutely correct for me, and I damn sure wasn’t offended by what he said. Senator Obama was merely saying what I’ve been feeling and telling my inner circle of family and friends for more than a decade.
For the first time in my adult life, I feel a twinge of hope in my gut for this country because of the prospects of Senator Barak Obama becoming this country's next President. It's time for things to change in this nation, and Senator Obama is the ONLY hope I see for that happening.
