building important backlinks

Back linking is basically getting other sites to point back (link back) to your website or blog. Whether you go and make these link postings on that site, or they link to you voluntarily is irrelevant.

What is important is that, the more sites that link to you - the more Google love you will get. Getting people with a high page rank to insert links with relevant keywords that point to your website, will give you a better Google "PageRank". Better PageRank means that when people search for a particular keyword - your site will show up ahead/above of others, because your page rank is better than theirs. This is called SEO or Search Engine Optmization.... doing stuff on your website and other's websites that will effect SERP (Search Engine Results Page) for your keyword(s).

Paying close attention to getting good back links to your site is very important. There are a few things that you should keep in mind while formulating and executing your backlinking strategy. Here are a list of possible ways for you to get back links.

1. Social Bookmarking
2. Submit articles to article directory sites
3. Do reciprocal link exchanges with other sites
4. Email site webmasters requesting them for one way links.
5. Participate in forums, and use signatures on your posts
6. Build unique valuable content on your website that warrants others to voluntarily link to your content
7. Offer valuable services that requires a link back to your site (for example, syndicated content)
8. Buy links outright (paid inclusion in directory link sites in your niche)

What makes a better "quality" link

Links of better "quality" will get you more Google love than plain low quality non-relevant links. How does one define better quality links? Here's how ...

1. Relevancy of the site linking to you ... make sure that the site that you are getting to link to you is of your related industry / vertical or niche.

2. Go for long term links... make sure that the site you are putting your link on, will keep it there for a long period of time. The older, the better. You dont want your hard earned links disappearing over a period of time as this will effect your PageRank.

3. One way linking ... links that are one-way are better than link exchanges. So, a site linkig to you, carries more weight than if you do a two-way link exchange with them. Google gives one-way links more points.

4. Link location ... a link higher up in the page is better than in the footer or in the middle of the page.

5. The more links the better! Try and see how many links your competitors have, then try and beat that!

6. Have quality anchor text links ... this is important. Make sure that the keyword(s) or phrase that make up the link are of relevance to the keywords you are seeking to be listed on top in Google. Try and get the link to have these keyword in them.

Back link building strategy

1. Always use care when executing your back link strategy. If you want to do a link exchange with another site - first put their link on a page in your website, then ask them to link to you, and send them a note showing the page where you have already included a link to them. You can infact, create a separate page called resource.html for example - in which you will keep adding your link exchange links.

2. Sign up at LinkMetro and use their free link exchange system and participating 20,000+ sites directory to exchange links with in your relevant category.

3. Get on social media websites like digg, del.icio.us, stumbleupon, wikipedia, orkut, etc and submit relevant content and links to your site. Don't spam them - just make sure the content you put up has value and links to your site.

4. Download this free list of 800+ Directories that offer good one-way links, and submit your site to them to get listed in their relevant categories.

5. Search Technorati for blogs related to your niche, and visit them often. Read their posts (specially the popular ones), and post intelligent comments on them and link to your site in the relevant text box while submitting the comment.

This should help you get strted with your back linking strategy. Start by trying different techniques and focus on those that work better for you. You can always check which sites are linking to you by entering this inside the Google search box - link: yoursite.com
