Christian radio has grown up. Today's Christian Radio has come a long way from the low budget radio that grew out of the Jesus Movement of the late 1960's and early 1970's. The improvements in Christian radio have allowed the format to become one of the fastest growing in the country. One of the main improvements in Christian radio is the quality of the music. In the early years the sound quality of Christian radio was dependent in part on the quality of the records available. Unfortunately most were low budget records - groups doing the best they could with what they have.
As the genre has grown over the years the major mainstream record companies have taken notice. Groups like Switchfoot and P.O.D. have had mainstream success. The digital age has made it possible to produce a higher quality product for less.
The second main improvement in Christian radio deals with the improvement and investment by radio station owners in quality equipment. As the market for Christian music has grown, station owners have wisely invested in improving the sound quality of their stations. Indeed, some networks such as KLOVE are investing in HD radio that allows them to broadcast CD quality music.
A third improvement in Christian radio is in the on-air talent. As stations developed and networks were formed they attracted talent that is comparable to the best in secular radio.
Today's Christian radio offers a wide range of music from Southern Gospel, Christian Rap, Christian Country, Gospel and just about everything in between. No matter what style of music you listen to, there is a Christian radio station for you.
