Cyber Bullying
Cyber bullying is a new and improved method for bullies to find and torture victims. As parents, we must educate our children on what it is, how to deal with it and we must also ensure that they don't engage in it. First of all, if you child has been involved in bullying, on either the receiving or delivering end, the bullying they are involved in could be extending to the web. Parents must be vigilent in keeping abreast of their children's online activities. Treat it as you would offline activities. Would you allow your child to venture out in a strange city alone without supervision? Kids and computers must be supervised - left unattended it can be a dangerous relationship. The bottom line is that no software is fool proof. The best program for keeping children safe online is the software between their ears. No matter how many safety precautions parents take with their home computer, kids are going to come across "stuff" online that they shouldn't or that is disturbing. We need to teach them how to handle those situations. |
