Do you know what an IED is? ...

Do you know what an IED is? It is an explosive device favoured by guerillas and terrorists.

It is an improvised explosive device, commonly referred to as a roadside bomb, that is often used by guerillas, commando forces and now increasingly more by terrorists.

It contains military, commercial or homemade explosives.

It is placed in cars and trucks or concealed ready to be detonated as vehicles drive past.

It can be triggered by wire or by remote control devices including garage door openers, cellphones or pagers, though military vehicles are now fitted with jammers to stop radio signals getting through.

Improvised devices are reported to be responsible for at least 40% of coalition deaths in iraq. these are certainly deadly devices.
