Do's and Don'ts of Effective Web Design

Do’s and Don’ts for Effective Web Design

One thing you may need to consider to generate more website traffic is your web design. Here are some do’s and don’ts tips for effective web design:

• Do make a fast loading web design - First you need to consider the loading time of your web page. Your website may look really great but if it does not load quickly few people will be able to see it. Remember, it should not take more than 15 seconds to load.

• Do use a consistent look and style – Your website should be coherent to stand out as a whole. The same look and style will let your visitors to have a sense of recognition when they are browsing within your website.

• Do use readable and professional fonts – Avoid using fancy fonts like Comic Sans which may not be available to other computers. By just your font, make your visitors feel that your website is professional. Try to use common and more professional fonts such as Verdana.

• Don’t clutter your page with unnecessary images - Minimize the use of images, and as much as possible make your website neat looking. You may use simple eye-catching icons to draw your visitors to a certain page or part of your website. Simple design is always effective because it’s light and neat to look at. It even makes your website content more understandable and readable to your visitors.

• Don’t create a crowded page – It does not look good if your text or image is pushed aside against the border to make space for other contents. You may use colspan and borderspan for tables and vspan and hspan for applets and images.

• Do check your site for broken links – Before uploading your site to your web server, make sure that there are no broken links within your site.

• Don’t use dark backgrounds –. It makes your content less readable, as much as possible avoid using dark colors for your background. You may use dark colors if you are going to use non serif fonts and make sure not to use small size fonts.
