Considering today’s modern and fast improving car technology you would think that robots would make far safer drivers than us humans who are governed by our emotions and our need for sleep. Surely logic as Mr Spock in Star Trek would say, would be the answer to safer driving and of course a robot would not suffer from tiredness as we humans do.
The fact is that we humans are still much better drivers than any technology that yet exists today and we react much more quickly and decisively in dangerous situations.
Robots tend to follow a certain set of parameters and cannot act outside of them, whereas recent research shows humans do react outside of these, and will act on intuition if they feel threatened.
So despite the vast amount of money car manufacturers are spending in an effort to develop this new technology us humans are still better than machines when it comes to driving ability.
I must confess it is satisfying to know that we may be safer drivers than robots although I can’t imagine a robot breaking the speed limit as most of us probably do from time to time.
Mind you, if cars were being driven by robots it would probably stop the middle lane hogging at slow speeds by the brain dead , that seems to be so endemic on our roads today!
