The latest month have seen two of the biggest Indonesian Islamic polital parties prominent members got caught in acts of self-indulgence and have put shames on their fellow party members, and Islamic population in general. First, a feud in Partai Kebangkitan Bangsa (National Uprising Party), a political vehicle for Nadhlatul Ulama (a prominent clerics-ruled society) resulting in bad names for the daughter of a dictator cleric. Yenni Wahid is given bad names after she and her gang brutally and unconstitutionally force the incumbent party leader, Muhaimin Iskandar, to put down his position. Yenni's father, the Dictator Cleric Abdurrahman Wahid (who is literally half-blind, has "I can do no wrong" attitude and have thousands of equally half-blind followers supporting his attitude) approve his daughter movement, at first at least. After Muhaimin shows that his followers in the party are stronger and in more consolidated group than Yenni's band of opportunists, Yenni went on silent and Abdurrahman have been spurting nonsense evasions and empty threats.
Abdurrahman Wahid is a Chairman of Party Overseer, basically a dictatorial position where he can put out order as he pleases and supported by the party's basic constitution. This latest fiasco is his habits of removing people he dislikes showing up its ugly head. But this one seems to have been backfiring on him. Yenni is basically his political drone, performing political movements and blackmailing party members on his father's name.
Abdurrahman once boasted that his party will be one of the only two parties left standing in the end. Current polls show that the party have people's approval of less than 10%, fall behind PKS (Partai Keadilan Sejahtera or Prosperous Justice Party, a Salafy based Islamic Party). This latest fiasco is certainly not putting a good image on the already fragile party.
Another fiasco also happened to Partai Persatuan Pembangunan (Development Unity Party), a relic Islamic party that have been fracturizing since the fall of Soeharto's New Order. A Provincial Chief of Branch, Al Amin Nasution (husband of a now depopular erotic singer, Kristina), got caugh receiving bribe from local police chief. From him, KPK (Komite Pemberantas Korupsi or Corruption Eradication Comittee) seized a sizable sum of money and with him, KPK caught a "beautiful, long haired, and sexy oriental woman" named Eiffel who is being suspected as prostitute gifted to Al Amin. His in-law family members have suspected Amin of doing corruptions, but Kristina, who last year demanded a divorce from her black-skinned and thug-faced husband, have been denying that suspicions.
PPP have been declining from its New Order fame and have been fracturizing after its elements formed their own ideological-based Parties (PKB is one of them). This latest fiasco will no doubt pulls the relic party further down the abyss.
Not a good indications for those two parties, and Indonesia's political season is in 2009, a year from the time this intel is written.
