Funny Medicine - How Gluten Sensitivity Led To A T-Shirt Business
Nearly everyone has some type of healthcare issue that is always in the back of their mind, and nearly everyone loves to wear new, attention-getting, humorous T-shirts. If you visit Funny Medicine at http://www.cafepress.com/funnymedicine you will have the opportunity to address both of these issues simultaneously. I entered into the T-shirt business primarily out of the joy I obtain in making people laugh. Humorous, new thoughts would cross my mind every day, but I wasn't making those ideas available to the public until, as a hobby, I decided to start displaying my humor on T-shirts. The concept actually matured after I was diagnosed with gluten sensitivity (celiac disease). This is an autoimmune, malabsorption disorder which results from sensitivity to the gluten storage proteins found in a variety of grains including wheat, barley, and rye among others. Symptoms vary dramatically from person to person, but may include rapid, severe weight loss, constant diarrhea, anemia, early-onset osteoporosis, short stature, vitamin deficiencies, a very specific type of red and itchy skin rash on the joints of the extremities, and a host of other possible symptoms. After spending significant time visiting celiac-related forums, I realized that most of the participants were VERY serious about their problems and could really use an opportunity to lighten up. That's when the T-shirt idea came to me, and many of the original designs still available at Funny Medicine are related to gluten sensitivity. I have, however, branched out to also cover psychological and behavioral health, diets, dieting, food and exercise, health insurance and healthcare costs, as well as miscellaneous medicial and non-medical humor. Furthermore, some of the designs are meant to be informative rather than funny so, if in some cases you don't see the humor, I'm hopeful that that was intentional on my part. In addition to T-shirts, I also presently carry sweatshirts, magnets, buttons, stickers, mugs, bags, teddy bears, caps, journals and a few other types of apparel and novelties. So, if you're in the mood for a few good laughs, and/or could use some new T-shirts, etc., please visit me today at http://www.cafepress.com/funnymedicine Thanks in advance, I sincerely hope that you enjoy your visit!
