Getting the most out of nosebleed concert seats

1. If you're an enthusiastic dancer/jumper/screamer, you can go nuts guilt-free. The fewer people behind you, the fewer angry "Sit Down!"s you'll hear.

2. There are usually a lot of fun people seated in the upper tiers and singing, clapping and stomping along with the music in a section filled with equally jazzed fans is a rush. True, those in front have a better view but a lot of those seats go to non-fans who were given their tickets as business perks. It's kind of a bummer to be screaming and who-hooing next to people who are obviously bored or worse yet talking on their cells or to their equally bored friends through most of the show.

3. Most stadiums have huge view screens and if you want to get virtually up-close-and-personal with your favorite musician, there's always binoculars. It is tricky to dance, hoot and hold binoculars up to your face at the same time but believe me, it can be done. Just don't strangle yourself with the neckstrap ;-)

4. The reason most of us go to concerts is to hear the music and today's speaker systems have come a long way since the early days of stadium shows. I'm old enough to remember trying to make out the sounds coming from The Beatles pitiful sound system at Shea Stadium in 1965! These days, you really can hear equally well from any seat in the house. And if it's outdoor venue and your really strapped for cash or are faced with a sell out, the sound in the parking lot often isn't bad at all :-)
