Tegan & Sara are two twins (born hours apart). They are also lesbians. And no, they are not dating each other. Get your mind out of the gutter, and into their music. They make catchy guitar-based pop that will stick in your head for days.
The music is addictive, and me and my colleagues have been listening to them nearly every day for the past 2 months, with no sign of stopping. No other artist has survived that kind of rotation in the vicious office playlist, which is based on "not that song again! change it please!" style real-time voting from a varied list of individuals who vary in age, ethnicity, and work scope.
So firstly - it's happy music. It's toe tapping melodies that holds up to lots of repeated listenings. Mostly guitar and piano, but the new album veers a bit more into electronic territory. Your mom and small children will like it too. Even as a quarter century old male, I find them very enjoyable.
Go sample them on Myspace or their official website. Recommended songs to listen to:
- Back In Your Head
- Walking With A Ghost
- I Know, I Know, I Know
- Take Me Anywhere
For the elist indie rock crowd: The White Stripes covered one of their songs, "Walking With A Ghost". That it itself, is serious cred.
For indie pop people: If you like the Cardigans, Annie Stela, Annie (from Anniemal), Jem , Stars, you'll like them!
For people who love Miley Cyrus, Hillary Duff: You'll like this too. Serious. They aren't mainstream, but its very accesible. 5 year old girls can sing along to their music. Look for "Tegan and Sara" on Youtube and you'll see what I mean.
