But how often do you ask yourself how to make each PART of yourself happy?

A little investigation may reveal that what you call your 'self' is actually an amalgam of many different sub-selves.

One part of you values humor, another connection, another transcendent wisdom. You have a part which cares only about food, another which only worries about sex, and one which concerns itself with your children, and nothing else.

It can be tremendously freeing to see this, because it allows us to concentrate on providing each 'self' with what it wants, and to abandon the impossible goal of making ALL parts happy ALL the time. Even the monk who meditates in the Himalayas for 30 years and achieves nirvana has only found happiness for one self, and suppressed or discarded the others.
