Harley Leather Jacket Care

Harley leather jackets for motorcycling are the best all round wear for both protection, warmth and looks. Although leather jackets will last for years they do need to be looked after properly to retain their good looks. Here is a short guide to help you keep your Harley leather jacket in top condition.

Some things You Will Need

Wide padded hangers
Breathable garment bags
Sponges
Leather conditioner
Stain and water protector

1. Always look for and read the care instructions inside the jacket. Follow the instructions carefully.

2. Apply the stain and water protector to your jacket. This will prevent spots from water and stains. You can also prevent damage by using a colorless protective spray applied to the jacket before you wear it.

3. Always hang up your jacket on a padded hanger in a breathable garment bag. This will help to maintain the shape and allow wrinkles to drop out of the jacket naturally. never leave the jacket in a plastic dry cleaners bag.

4. If the jacket gets wet allow it to dry out naturally. Do not use hair dryers, heating vents or any other source of heat.

5. If the leather becomes dry or cracked use a specially made leather conditioner.

6. Remove any stains or salt deposits as soon as possible using a damp sponge and allowing the jacket to dry naturally.

7. Have your leather jacket professionally cleaned at least once a year. Do not leave the jacket in the plastic bag when it is returned. Remove it and hang on a padded hanger covered with a breathable garment bag.

8. Avoid humid environments as they will encourage the growth of mildew. if you live in a very dry area use a leather conditioner regularly to keep your jacket supple.

9. Never use any kind of household or laundry cleaner on your jacket. If stains cannot be removed using warm water use a specially made leather cleaner.
