I haven't been in Heat, Lockhart Road, Wanchai, for some time since being very disappointed with what I thought was a serious deterioration in the standard of their food. The problem was a favourite dish that we used to order which had always been steamed. Then for some reason on two occasions that we went there it was deep fried. Since this turned what was a very tasty and easily digested dish into one that kind of sat like a lump in your stomach we found somewhere else to eat.
Last night I was back there again, saw Andy (the manager) for the first time and explained what had happened. It turns out that we could order the dish EITHER steamed OR deep fried, but we'd never been given the choice.
The good news is that Andy undertook to make sure this option was offered in the future and we know we can specify 'steamed'.
Heat is a small but upscale bar which also serves food. The menu is excellent - pretty much East meets West with the Eastern dishes biased towards Thai and Nepalese. There's piped music which is low enough to enable a sensible conversation while loud enough to create a comfortable atmosphere.
Like most bars in Wanchai, it's open fronted. This creates a sense of space and greatly reduces the stuffiness created by the smokers. It has the no smoking exemption certificate until July 2009.
It doesn't have TV - but that makes it something of a haven of peace among the bars in Wanchai!
Worth a look if you haven't been there before.
