How to Develop Better Relationships

Relationships of all kinds are often perceived as very delicate things that require extra effort to maintain. However, a relationship can also be something that can provide security and can also be long lasting despite many trials and tribulations.

Society is defined as a web of relationships, which requires all parties to work and contribute their share in order to achieve a common goal. Having a relationship that is good, where cooperation and respect are manifested, can make society work better.

In this way each member works for the good of the whole and towards achieving a common goal. This can only be attained with effective and efficient relationships.

Understanding the other parties' feeling and position creates an effective and efficient relationship. The easiest method to understand what is important to another party is to ask them what they want and listen to what they have to say. When the other party realizes this, they would feel the importance given to them

Effective and efficient relationships require parties to openly express their feelings and positions on all matters pertinent on the relationship. Assuming that the other party understands our needs and give us when we need it without asking for it is not a good practice.

Respect is the key to healthy relationships. In order to create a more effective relationship, parties should treat each other with respect. We can show respect just by listening to the other party and by trying sincerely to understand how they feel.

Work towards a win-win solution for both parties. This can be done when at least one person acknowledges that the relationship is important. That person would then exert more time, effort and energy to understand the other party's needs and deal with it to get it out of the way. Should they fail, it is comforting for that person to know that they tried.

Effectively listening and no pre-judging. This is important if parties are to understand each other. When parties fail to express whatever is on their mind or their feelings, it can get in the way of building an effective relationship.

Relationships are important to anyone, addressing issues and problems right away is a must to further improve the relationship. As they say 'No man is an Island'.

If respect is the key for healthy relationships then that must include respect for yourself. As with all other aspects of your life, good or bad relationships occur because of your thoughts, beliefs, emotions and so on. Every relationship you have had, are having or will have is based on what you’re feeling within yourself.

So how do so many end up in bad relationships?

Simple really. By focusing on what you don’t want. As with everything else in your life, what you focus your attention on and put emotion into you will get in return.

I know you may be thinking that you don’t want bad relationships in your life. None of us do. But let’s take an example of the woman who always seems to get into relationships with the wrong type of guy.

This particular woman wants a nice guy, as most women do, but she is focusing on the attributes she doesn’t want. She’s thinking and hoping he won’t mistreat her or be mean to her. By focusing on what she doesn’t want, she is always going to get exactly what she doesn’t want.

You hear it many times from women that attract the wrong type of guy. They’ll say things like “I always seem to attract the wrong type of guy.” The women that feel that way aren’t aware of the universal laws and power principles. They don’ realize that they are attracting exactly what they don’t want by thinking about it and putting emotion behind it.

So can positive affirmations really help you find the love of your life? Absolutely! Using positive affirmations can put you in the right frame of mind in order to attract your ideal mate. But there is a specific process that you need to use in order to have success with this method.

The first step to creating affirmations that work is to know exactly what you want in a mate. This can be hard for some people to put their finger on.

Although you shouldn’t make it a practice to focus on that which you don’t want, in this case you need to. You need to observe what has made you unhappy with relationships in the past. This process of observing the “bad” should only be done briefly. Remember that your thoughts and emotions attract more of the same into your life.

So if you are focused on the negative all of the time (“there aren’t any decent men in this city” or “all women want to control me”) you’ll just get more of the same. Take a brief amount of time (an hour tops) to write down exactly what you don’t want in a relationship.

During this exercise, you can think about past relationships. Don’t be afraid to write down specifics about what you didn’t like (“too attached to parents” or “too obsessed with sports” for example). Write down details that annoyed you, frustrated you and eventually made the relationship intolerable. Get out all of your “don’t wants” in one place.

In addition to writing about specifics of your past love interests, you can also write about the emotions that you don’t want to feel in future relationships. For example, you don’t want to feel confined by your partner, or you don’t want to feel jealously and insecurity.

Remember, your relationship relies as much on you as it does on the other person. Your don’t wants can include personal attributes that you feel you need to change in order to become a better partner for your ideal mate.

When you’re finished you’ll have a picture of the man or woman that you don’t want, and the type of relationship that you want. Now it’s time to create the ideal mate for you.

Using your don’t want list, create a list of attributes that you do want in both yourself and in your partner. This “want” list will become a basis for your relationship affirmations and imagery.

You can group wants together, or use a separate affirmation for each of your wants. Keep your affirmations positive. This means that instead of saying “I don’t want to be alone this year” your affirmation states “I have a healthy, fulfilling relationship.”

More examples include:

“I am attracting the ideal mate for me right now.”
“I am in the process of loving myself more completely.”
“I am becoming more and more confident.”
“I have a stable, successful and encouraging spouse.”

While many people think that love affirmations have to focus on personal attributes (like self love or esteem), that isn’t necessarily so. Don’t be afraid to use affirmations that have specifics about your mate. After all, whatever you focus on with affirmations is what you’ll attract into your life. If having a mate with a certain type of job, or one who lives in a certain location is important to you, don’t be afraid to mention it in your affirmations.

Above all, respect the fact that affirmations take time to work. You’ll be changing what you are attracting and that requires changing your focus. If you’ve been focusing on the negatives on the dating scene for a long time, it may take some time to undo your past perceptions. So keep using your affirmations on a daily basis, and you’ll see change.

The same can be said for any kind of relationship. If you want to work for a great boss, you need to picture yourself in that situation and picture exactly how the boss will interact with you. In a positive manner of course. If you start worrying whether your boss will be mean to you, guess what kind of boss you will attract?

Therefore, focus on the qualities you want in a person and use your power of imagination to spend some time with that type of person. If you are a looking for a new love, then focus on what the person would be like, what they might look like. Use the power principles to bring that person into your life.

Harmonious relationships are as simple as using the power principles to envision the type of relationship you want with a person or the kind of person you want to come into your life. If you can stir up some positive emotions about the type of relationship you desire, the universe has no choice but to deliver what you desire.
