How To Get Free Blog Traffic From CNN.com
By Mikey 777
Here's a very simple but effective trick to get more traffic to your blog (for free) from CNN.com. If you run a blog that hinges on current events as mine does, your best bet is to search CNN.com for the top stories of the day. Once you find a story that fits your blog's theme, click the link and scroll to the bottom of the page. If there's a gray bar that says "From The Blogs", you're good to go. All you have to do is link to the story on CNN.com from your blog (via text in a post), and Sphere automatically finds it and lists it in the "From The Blogs" section on CNN. I've gotten anywhere from 10 to 40 targeted visitors just from one post. Quick tip: Always make sure your link to CNN is in your post before publishing. If you add it after you publish your post, Sphere won't pick it up.

Please don't SPAM CNN.com. Sphere only recognizes relevant content.

I'm going to have to try that, to link to CNN in a post on my blog. Thanks
Thank you for the intel on CCN & Sphere. Very halpful and informative. I appreciate these kinds of tips to help others. I will share the intel an my pages where I add good content to be of help. Tipigal
Great tip but I'm trying to follow it and have a few questions. First, in your text do you actually have to type cnn.com as part of your text, or can you put the title of the related article as the text and hyper link it to the cnn.com url containing the story. second, where exactly do you find the link? Is it in sphere somewhere, or is it on the cnn website. I looked on cnn and don't see a section called "from the blogs" I really want to use this technique so I want to get is straight. Thanks for your hard work on this topic

Yes, you have to hyperlink to a CNN article. The actual text that your reader sees doesn't matter, so it can be whatever you like. All you have to do is click on a story on CNN.com, scroll to the bottom of the article to make sure it has the light blue bar that says "From The Blogs", then copy the article's URL from your address bar and create a link with it in your post. Here's an example of a story with a "From The Blogs" section--copy and paste this link into your browser, then scroll to the bottom of the article (this is an example of a URL you could use in your link also): www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/08/18/georgia.russia.war/index.html Please be aware that not all articles on CNN have a "From The Blogs" section at the bottom. You may have to search a bit.

Sounds great, thanks. I'll give it a try. Does the technique only work for the very latest news and not for slightly older stories? I found a story from last month I'd like to do a blog post about, but I'm not sure if there's any point in doing that.

This technique works with any CNN article that has a "From The Blogs" section at the bottom. You may not want to waste your time with older stories though, as they don't get much traffic.

You're appreciated for pointing out the cautions people should use with this tip, even in your answered questions. Often times people give great tips like this and spoil it by not pointing out the no nos.

Thanks for replying to my question. However, I have done everything you said and still can not manage to get a link back. I will keep trying. I have about 7 different blogs on subjects often brought up on CNN. Entertainment, Business, and Insurance. I believe I am doing everything correctly. However, do I need to have sphere widget on my own blog for the sphere spiders to find me?? thanks Mike
This is an excellent tip, and what a great site to have a backlink from...
