Though many popular diet programs often encourage you to eat whatever you want, this is simply not true. The very fact you gained weight is because you have eaten whatever you always wanted! There is no argument that junk food that you can grab at a fast-food restaurant should not be included in your diet plan. Why? Typical and popular fast-foods, hamburgers, hotdogs, or French-fries are high in saturated fat.
Fat
Make no mistake. If you consume lots of fattening foods, you will gain weight fast. So, the first step of your diet is to eliminate all sorts of junk foods, especially foods with many grams of saturated fat. Check the label of everything you buy. Saturated fat is also the very risk factor for stroke, heart diseases, or cancer. It's just not healthy stuff at all.
More Carbs
After eliminating junk foods, replace them with grains and carbohydrate-rich foods. Then add veggies and fruits. The idea is to follow the Food Pyramid, which suggests that we should eat more grains, vegetables, and fruits. Then add meats, as lean as possible, and daily products to cover other essential nutrients. This is the way of selecting healthy foods for a better diet.
Your Calorie Intake
Next, know how much you can eat. Generally, men can consume more calories as they are bigger and have a higher metabolism rate. Other factors to calculate how many calories you should eat everyday are height, weight, age, and your daily activity. You will have to find your IBW (Ideal Body Weight) and metabolism in order to estimate your daily calorie intake.
No Pain, No Gain
One last thing that many people know but don't want to think of it is a daily exercise. As you age, your metabolism goes slower, and that's why you gain more weight faster if you don't do any exercise. A daily moderate exercise can increase your metabolism and help lose your weight. Also, by doing exercises, you can make it even when you have eaten too much! To keep yourself in a good shape, you have to burn adequate calories on a daily basis. It's all about the balance of calorie in and out. Never engage in a diet that has no exercise program! It is possible for you to lose wight without any exercise or even eating fattening food here and there. However, you will gain even more and faster once you quite your diet. The rebound is much worse in those who followed wrong diet programs.
