How to Remove WSUS manually

Follow this steps in order to remove the WSUS installation manually and then reinstall the software correctly.

1. Stop all WSUS related services, including the SQL Service or Windows
Internal Database.

2. You need to delete the c:\Program Files\Update Services folder and all
sub folders.

3. Remove the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Update Services key in
the registry.

4. Remove all the WSUS Service keys in the registry, like the ones listed
below:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WSUS: API Remoting Web
Service
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WSUS: Client Web
Service
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WSUS: Client Web
Service Methods
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WSUS: Reporting Web
Service
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WSUS: Server Web
Methods
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WSUS: Server Web
Service
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WSUS: Update
Regulation Web Methods
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WSusCertServer
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WsusService

5. Clean up the MSI installation files with the MSI Clean tool that you can
download from this address:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/MSICLEAN.htm

6. If you are not running any other IIS Sites on this server, then remove
IIS from the server, using Add/Remove Windows Components. If there are
other IIS virtual directories or sites on this server, then you can just
remove the virtual directories that are related to WSUS like:
Inventory
DSSAuthWebService
ApiRemoting30
Content
ReportingWebService
SelfUpdate
ServerSyncWebService
SimpleAuthWebService
ClientWebService

7. Reboot the Server.

8. If you removed IIS, then Re-add it with the only the Core, ASP, and WWW
Service Options.

Make sure you do not delete the C:\WSUS folder because that is where your
database and content folders are located. Your Drive letter for the WSUS
folder may be different, depending where you defined your content to be.

Once completing all these steps then you should be able to re-install the
WSUS Server cleanly.
