I had my long awaited arthroscopy on May 6 2008...
I had my long awaited arthroscopy or keyhole surgery last Tuesday. It was successful but didn't necessitate the removal of my interior knee cartilage, as I imagined. The surgeon did a clean-up of the calcium deposit he found on my knee joint.
Arthroscopy entails an incision in the joint area through which a tiny camera is inserted to view the inside of the joint. Once the surgeon is able to determine what damage is to be repaired. He then makes another incision through which he operates on the joint.
Pain is reduced, and recovery and rehabilitation is much shorter. I am walking around on a cane 24 hours after the operation, in comparison to weeks on crutches after having open surgery on my other knee,25 years ago.
