Loud Commericals Ruining TV?
Have you ever been watching a television program that switched to commercials - and perceived a sudden blast of sound? Congress is trying to do something about that sound explosion coming from our televisions. Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA) has introduced the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation Act (CALM Act), which would order the FCC to require advertisers to smooth the transition to commercials and create ads that are not "excessively noisy or strident." The CALM Act would allow technical experts at the FCC to create informed, practical volume standards. Also, advertisers interviewed in the news said their goals coincide with the goals of this legislation because they, too, do not want to annoy viewers. Thus, the CALM act would help advertisers to make their television commercials more effective while sparing ears some pain. Please tell your representative to enact a simple fix to a simple problem to turn down commercials by supporting the CALM Act. Sign up here.

Contributor's Note
Comments: I've been complaining about this to my family for years. Now I can do something about it. There would be fewer fights about "Turn that darn thing down"!!!!! They shouldn't be allowed to get away with this, we are in the privacy of our homes and don't appreciate being blasted that way!!!!!! If I really want to 'hear' what is being advertised, I will pay attention. They don't have to blast my eardrums, so that I will eventually need hearing aids to hear anything at all. This is as invasive as unwanted spam, junk mail, and unsolicited phone calls.
