Mac Computers Fuel Apple Growth

According to Keith Bachman of BMO Capital Markets (via CNN Money), it’s not the iPhone, or the iPod, but Apple’s Macintosh computer line that will play the biggest role in apple’s growth. Bachman thinks that the iPhone’s growth is slowing, and that the MP3 player market is saturated (even though recent sales numbers show 40% of iPod sales are to ‘new to Apple’ customers, and unit sales increased by 5% last quarter). He expects they will only sell 51.1 million iPods rather than the 54.6 he originally thought.

Bachman says that due to increasing Mac marketshare, sales this financial year should reach 9.4 million units sold with an estimate of 2.06 million this quarter. The analyst gives Apple [AAPL] a good ‘outperform rating’. Also helping apple of course it the recently announced $18.5 billion reserve.

Tim Cook, Apple’s Chief Operating Officer, at the February Goldman Sachs tech conference in Las Vegas, claims: "The ceiling for the Mac is nowhere in sight. We focus on what the customer wants…"
