There is a rivalry as old as the hills themselves. Older than the Hatfields vs the McCoys. Older than chicken vs Egg. Older than time itself! But seriously... In internet years, the battle between Mac "fanboys" and Windows "zealots" has raged for centuries. (1 internet year is equal to 187 human years, or thereabouts) When will the senseless insults and volleys of spec sheets and one-sided blog posts end? Why does the great moderator in the sky allow this to continue? No really, I'll be serious now...
The Two Sides
Maccies
(Also known as fanboys, fanbois, raving lunatics with a bit of cash and something to prove.)
Mac users tend to be more affluent, hands off, artistic types. People who forge their own path (along with 1,000's of other independent types). Designers, photographers, web designers, web photographers, you get the point.
Rarely does one being their computing experience on Apple hardware, unless they grew up in the 80's when Apple had a huge market share. Many, like myself, were pushed to the light side (see what I did there?) because of Windows ME 2.0, codename:Vista.
Windozers
(Also known as the 90 percenters, conformists, John Hodgman)
You got a job? You sit at a computer all day? Chances are you are in the Windows camp. These little beeping grey boxes are like a virus spreading from office to office, humming away loudly under desks and belching smog from their backsides. Overly dramatic and biased? Ok, maybe.
Windows is like a brown paper bag. You need to put something into something else? Why a brown paper bag will do just fine. Cheap. Somewhat reliable for a small while. Won't turn any heads. But at least nobody is going to try and steal it while you're at the pub.
Summary and Final Conclusion
It is my belief that people tend to defend their property and decisions with a sometimes blind faith and commitment. It's rare for a Mac user to concede and admit that Microsoft does sometimes...sometimes...get things right. It's also rare for a Windows user to admit that yes...pretty things can sometimes make life more enjoyable.
Even work!
