Bloggers have all kinds of options available to make money online, including banners on their sites, promoting products, selling links, writing sponsored reviews, and more. There are plenty of sites out there that will do the work for you, such as ReviewMe and SponsoredReviews which will manage your paid posts, advertisers, and money. The pros to that are that you aren't keeping up with anything - they are - and all you have to do is write the advertisement. Another pro is that you're most likely included in a marketplace for advertisers to search and find you, because otherwise they wouldn't.
The cons to this are that ReviewMe, SponsoredReviews, and all others WILL take a cut of your profit - sometimes even up to 50%, such as ReviewMe (others take 35%, etc.) Also, it can take some time to pay you - usually two weeks to a month. While this isn't a big deal, it can be irksome if you need the money. Another downside is that sites that run your advertising also run all the rules on it. What they say goes.
So you have two separate options:
1) RUN PRIVATE ADVERTISING ON YOUR SITE.
You can make your own rules and charge your own prices. However, there isn't a marketplace for advertisers to find you so you'll probably make less sales.
2) USE A COMPANY OR SERIVCE.
TextLinkAds, PayPerPost, ScratchBack - advertisers can find you but you won't keep the whole cut of your money. Sometimes you can rank better in the marketplaces though and sell for even more, so sometimes this takes care of itself.
MY SUGGESTION, HOWEVER, IS DOING BOTH. Set up an advertising page on your blog or website and run private advertising. People who are readers of your site will likely purchase it this way, to save money because they don't have to spend the extra to pay the ad company. Visitors of your site will be most interested in this.
Then, sign up for all your making money sites and services. Random advertisers you don't know in the marketplace can purchase advertising from you, doubling your income.
