Making Programs Work in Windows Vista

Making Programs Work in Windows Vista

This is a couple of ways you can get Windows XP programs
to work in Windows Vista.

The first thing I usually try to do is to Give it Administrtator rights.
Windows Vista has a safety feature so programs you dont know about wont
access Administrator rights, so after doing this you will get a message
asking if you recognize the program, and if you want it to continue to run.

-First open the folder that the EXE file is in, right click it, and go to
properties.

-Click the Compatibility Tab, then check the box that says "Run this program
as Administrator".

The next thing to do if this doesn't work would be to run the program in a
compatibility mode.

-First open the folder that the EXE file is in, right click it, and go to
properties.

-Click the compatibility tab, then check the box that says "Run this program
in compatibility mode for".

-Then select "Windows XP (Service pack 2)" from the dropdown window.

Sometimes it works better to select "Windows Server 2003 (service pack 1)" but
not very often.

If your program still won't run try the following

-Click start menu, Conttrol panel, then click classic view in the left side box

-Double click "System", Then in the left side box click "Advanced system settings",
it will ask if you want to continue, click continue.

-In the new window click the Advanced tab, then there will be 3 separate sections.
Click the Settings button under the Performance section.

-In the new window click the "Data Execution Prevention" tab, then click the circle
by the "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select"

-Next click the add button, then browse to the EXE file of the program you are
trying to run.

WARNING: I am not rresponsible if this causes any harm to your computer. You need
to be sure that the software you are using does not contain Viruses or other harmful
things that might harm your computer.

Here is some of the programs I have for XP that I run on Vista.

-RPG Maker XP

-Trickster Online Client

-GraphicsGale Free edition

-Sonic Foundry Sound Forge 6.0

Contributor's Note

I hope this helps those having any problem with XP programs in Windows Vista.
