My arthroscopy posts at Blogger Party were precipitated by my forthcoming knee cartilage operation.
Our local ACC branch( our state owned accident compensation corporation)has approved my operation and I just have to wait for the private hospital provider to set a date.
It is commonly called 'keyhole surgery' and entails basically two or three holes being cut in my knee to allow a minature camera down one, and the surgery through one or more other holes.
This sort of operation enables quicker healing and rehabilitation as well.
Twenty five years ago I had my other knee operated on in what is called an 'open' operation.Just a long incision which opens up the knee and enables the surgeon to see all - but takes many weeks of healing and rehabilitation.
In these types of operations the large muscle above the knee - the quad - just deterioates to almost nothing and a lot of exercising is necessary to get it back to normal size and strength.
With arthroscopy there is not so much deterioation to the muscle and you are back on your foot in days.
That is the theory of the situation in any case - lets hope the reality is the same.
Contributor's Note
Just an explanation of a much simpler operation. I should be back on my feet within days.
