My Favorite Restaurants in Hyde Park, Chicago

Hyde Park in Chicago is home of the University of Chicago, the Museum of Science and Industry, the Oriental Institute, The Smart Gallery, the Hyde Park Historical Society, and the annual 57th Street Art Fair.

Many people come to the community and are interested in finding a good place to eat. There are not very many restaurants in Hyde Park, but it is possible to get a variety of meals in the neighborhood. Here are a few of my favorites.

The most unusual place to eat is a cafeteria that has really good food home cooked food. Valois Restaurant on 53rd Street.

Nearby is the Calypso Cafe and the Dixie Kitchen.
Pizza Capri has great and unusual pizza and other foods.

The Medici is a favorite campus hangout on 57th Street. They have terrific hamburgers. Next door is the wonderful Medici bakery. And, next door to them is Noodles, Etc. This place has fresh and delicious noodles and other Asian foods.

Edwardo‘s Natural Pizza Restaurant is on the same street nearby. There are a number of other restaurants in the area where Chinese and Greek foods are available. Mandarin Kitchen and Orly’s are also nearby.

If you walk on 55th street from Lake Park Avenue towards the lake you will find a number of Thai, Middle Eastern, and Japanese restaurants that have very good food.

Piccolo Mondo has consistently good Italian food and it is near the Museum of Science and Industry. Also, Bar Louie

Bonjour is a genuine French cafe and pastry shop.

La Petite Folie is a wonderful French restaurant

Contributor's Note

Note. I didn’t include fast food restaurants, but there are several available, too.
