My Home Town, Starkville MS

My hometown of Starkville, Mississippi brings me great memories. I born in 1954 and Starkville was a growing and thriving town. Still is to this day.

There is a lot of history behind this old Southern town now called Starkville. Originally, Starkville was know as Boardtown. A mill located southwest of town provided clapboards hence the name Boardtown. Was renamed Starkville for Revolutionary War Hero General John Stark. Starkville is located in Oktibbeha County.

People have always been nice and friendly. The southern hospitality that is shown toward other people is refreshing. Many antebellum homes are in the area. One is Waverly Mansion that is about 40 minutes from Starkville is my favorite.

Mississippi State University (MSU) is so much a part of Starkville. The mascot for MSU is the bulldog. Maroon and white are the university's colors. The community is very supportive of the university's football team. Great place to live or visit.
