My thoughts on Obama encouraging Clinton to Stay in the Race
Obama's defense of Clinton to stay in the Democratic race is more than being noble minded. Its my opinion that Barack Obama had more on his mind then merely fair mindedness when he defended Hillary Clinton's right to stay in the Democratic nominee race. While I do think highly of Obama defending Clinton to keep campaigning for the nomination I strongly suspect there were other motivations for him then simply being fair. Please note I wrote other as opposed to instead. I did not mean to imply he wasn't sincere in sticking up for her.However I am thinking there very well could be more factors involved.
One would be by stating the NY senator is justified in not dropping out, the ILL senator could be holding out a sign of possible reconciliation. That is if by any chance Hillary Clinton does get the nomination, she could still be open to choosing him to be her running mate. Yes, I do remember Obama saying he wouldn't accept the second spot. I don't believe he was in a position to say yes. After all he's still running for the Democratic nomination. If Hillary wins Senator Obama will be in a position to accept the vice presidency. Plus if she wins, Clinton could recommend him a high position in presidency if she wins the election.
With Obama's experience dealing with foreign cultures with his family, his personal experience, especially his travels I can see him secretary of state.
Another reason for his defense of Clinton staying is to make him seem like a man who thinks principles is more important then winning. It makes him look fair minded even if he isn't. Personally I think he is sincere.I wonder too, if any Democratic would wonder if the tables were turned if Clinton would say she wanted Obama to stay in the race. In other words would Hillary be as altruistic as Obama was to her? Lastly I'm wondering how many Barack Obama supporters are telling themselves how magnanimous their candidate is. I figure the IL Senator can't lose. I think he's hoping more people would vote for him because of his sense of fair play and if he loses the nomination he gave out an olive leaf to his Democratic rival. While it very well may be true Obama wouldn't want to be second place on the ticket, if Hillary Clinton did win he would be in a position to change his mind.On a personal note I plan to vote for Obama in the PA primary because I like his views on issues important to me. But that's a new editorial. There would be the notion that Barack Obama is so confident in winning the nomination that he can show the public he can afford to defend his rival's right to continue to fight for the Democratic nomination. He can show the voters he doesn't need to worry. He can be altruistic and not need to worry over the consequences. I can imagine the ILL Democratic senator thinkihg. "See I don't need to worry. I am in a position to
be fair minded. I wonder too if he ever wonders if Hillary Clinton would do the same for him if the situation was reversed. I suspect he's asking if the US Democratic voters are asking the same question. In other words this makes Obama look very tolerant, understanding and the essence of fairness. |
