Are you one of those folks that desire to escape from the hustle and bustle of city living by retreating to the rural areas or country life whenever you get a chance? Some of us have been truely blessed to enjoy the rural living or country life and not have to fight over parking spaces, or worry about whose vehicle is at your curbside.
We do not pay association fees to have someone dictate to us how to live, or what we can, or can not have at the residence our own hard earned money paid for.
We don't measure our property by feet or lots... we measure by acres. We don't have driveways, we have lanes and paths. We don't have sidewalks or street lights... we have shoulders, and our nights are brighten by fire flies or lighting bugs along with the moon and stars which are not seen through city lights.
We don't pay for water, sewage because we have our own water wells pumping from cold fresh natural underground springs. We have our own septic tanks, or aerobic systems which we don't worry about anyone else cutting off. Many of us do not even pay for trash or garbage pick up because we recycle it or return it back to the earth from whence it came.
We do not have burglar bars that can trap you in case of fire, or pay for expensive alarm systems. However, we do enjoy the lowest insurance rates available anywhere because we don't need to lock our homes, windows, or vehicles.
We may not have cable, DSL, high speed internet, or such, but we have good neighbors and friends to provide a social and interactive bond that is above reproach. We also have no drive by shootings, crack houses, slums, or ghettos.
We have no vehicles speeding down the streets blasting music at jet engine pitch. Sure, we have the occassional ATV or dirt bike that may startle your chickens or goats... but otherwise, we enjoy our horses, golf carts, and even covered wagons drawn by a team of mules.
When is the last time your neighbor accross the creek brought you a fresh brisket, picnic shoulder, ham, slab of ribs, or a dozen of eggs from their organically grown livestock? When is the last time you've taken your neighbor a mess of greens, a bag of corn, cucumbers, green beans, tomatoes, squash, or okra from your all natural garden?
Oh, and don't forget to send the kids out to gather pecans or pick apples, oranges, pears, peaches, or berries for that fresh hot cobbler or pie you love to enjoy with your home-made ice cream made from rock salt.
Got some free or idle time on your hands? How about stepping out to the shed or barn, grabbing your rod and reel, or bamboo pole and a hand-full of worms from your worm farm, and catch a mess of pan size catfish or bass to fry up for supper tonight from your pond.
For you city slickers that would love to know how to build your own backyard barn or shed, fish pond, or worm farm, you can grab all that information from the external links.
Finally, as your day comes to a close, and the sun sets behind the tall stand of pines or oak... do the roosters let you know it's bed time, and the crickets fiddle you to sleep as the bullfrogs croak in with the bass? Or, do you hear the traffic roaring, music blaring, loud neighbors screaming, and the sirens wailing?
You have your life, and we have ours, but you do have a choice... ode to rural living, and the country life.
