People Fear the mere Mention of Cholesterol
Many people worry about cholesterol but the fact is that it is vital to good health. Like everything.... Cholesterol is only a problem when in excess. Cholesterol isn't really bad at all. It forms the building block of some important hormones including the sex hormones testosterone and estrogen and it's an important component of all of our cell membranes. Reducing saturated fat intake will not have that big of an effect on the cholesterol levels in your blood because about 3/4 of it is made by your body. Even if you consumed no cholesterol; your body would continue to produce it. When healthy, your body works like it's own little factory and will make exactly the right amount for your needs. It tells your liver to increase or decrease the amount of cholesterol that it manufactures. When you eat more cholesterol, your body will make less and when you don't eat cholesterol; it will produce more. The exception being (as with anything that you put into your body)... If you consume a HUGE amount of anything, alcohol, sugar OR cholesterol... then your body may become overwhelmed and may not be able to handle it. AND contrary to popular belief; eating olive oil does NOT counter-act cholesterol. Adding any oil to your food will raise your cholesterol. Eat pretty much anything you want to, within moderation. Avoid excess of anything on a regular basis. Period!

Contributor's Note
Fat isn't that bad either but fat is found in more of our foods and we as a whole tend to overdo the fat intake.
