In the last issue of the ‘ONE YEAR MILLIONAIRE‘ we looked at how to make money by advertising your products. This time we are going to look at the opposite; making money by advertising other company’s products on your website. Becoming an ad publisher is no easy task! You might think “Hey, all I have to do is put up a few ads and I’m set.” but if that is your mindset then you are heading the wrong way. Ad publishers can reap great financial rewards online; however, getting your website approved to advertise for a company is harder than you may think.
There are a few things that advertising agencies will look at while reviewing your website for approval. These include the amount of traffic your website receives, the content of your website, the terms and the circumstances.
1. Traffic
For most of the best publishing programs online you have to have built an insane amount of traffic to your website (which is why I have been stressing traffic in a couple previous issues). You are looking at a range of 1000-3000 unique hits a day minimum. The better programs are extremely strict about this, because for them it is completely useless to put ads on a website that has no viewers! The smaller companies that offer publishing programs are less strict and may not even require specific traffic restrictions; however, it is sure that they will pay out a significantly smaller amount for your ad space.
2. Content
Many companies will not approve a website that has inappropriate content. Some examples would be illegal content, adult content as well as hateful or racist content. Be sure that your content is clean and you shouldn’t worry. Another thing about content; having your own unique content is key! The more the better. Don’t steal content from other sites and if you are going to borrow something then you should always ask the owner’s permission to do so.
3. Terms
There are many publishing programs that do not allow theirs ads to be displayed on the same page as the ads from another company. I’m sure you’ve seen it all over the internet but that is technically a breech in their agreement and could result in termination. Always follow the terms that are given by the program to ensure that you get paid!
4. Circumstances
Admission into an ad program is just like any other. If they need you they will take you, but if they don’t then they will not. If a company has too many publishers and not enough ads and you happen to apply for your website to get reviewed then that is just bad timing. Don’t be too discouraged because you can re-apply later on if you have the patience!
Now that you have gotten through the hard part, putting up the ads and watching the money roll in can be quite addictive… but always remember that you can maximize your profits with multiple websites (KEEP THIS IN MIND). Different programs have different payment rates but you can expect $3-$5 CPM (cost per 1000 impressions) as an average. So for example; if you have a website with 2000 unique visitors a day at a rate of $3 CPM then you are making $180 just with that one website in a month. If you have the millionaire mindset then think about how much money you would make with that one site with 1 million visitors in one month? (HINT:$3000)
The possibilities using these programs are virtually endless. All you have to do is get through that door, but once you are in, the hard work to get there is worth it :)
