Pullip dolls

Pullip is a fashion doll sold in Japan by JUN Planning. The first dolls were released in 2003 and featured large heads with eyes that moved, working eyelids and poseable ball-jointed bodies. Each doll comes with a name and a background story.

There are also Little Pullip dolls. These tiny recreations have the same look as their larger counterparts but do not have articulated bodies.

In 2004, JUN Planning introduced Namu, Pullip's boyfriend. While these male dolls were similar to Pullip, their bodies were more fragile. As such, they didn't sell nearly as well. Due to low sales, Namu was retired in 2005 under the guise of "breaking up" with Pullip.

For about a year, our poor Pullip was a single gal. However, in 2005, Taeyang was introduced as Pullip's new boyfriend. This time around, the male doll had a sturdier build. Taeyang also has a more masculine look to him.

At the same time, Dal, Taeyang's younger sister was released. Her body has the same articulation as Pullip but she has a slightly smaller build. She also tends to have a pouty look on her face which isn't always attractive.

These types of dolls are a big hit for Japanese doll collectors. One of the big selling points is that each doll generally sells for under $100. A handful of special editions retail for more but, for the most part, these dolls are affordable and a lot of fun to play with.
