A book on Power Thinking inspired me to set targets for myself. My principle target for September was to earn $25 from the website looklovely.net that I publish with a partner. Our main source of income is GoogleAds. Tricia, my website partner put the ads into a new format that (according to other users) would yield more ‘clicks’.
Working on the basis that we would need more visitors to the site to gain more revenue, I have been trying to publicise the site to increase traffic.
This is an account of my activities on Day 25 of the Quest, and an honest report of the result in terms of revenue.
We update looklovely.net every Thursday. Yesterday was a Thursday, and I was due to be at a meeting at 8.30 am about 20 miles from home. In order to get the new pages published, I got up at 6 am!
The new content included a description of pelvic floor exercise, my updated progress report, and a feature on Fair Trade and/or organic cotton jackets.
When I returned home from the meeting, I sent emails to the retailers whose jackets were included in the feature. I had included a photo of a dress from ipackmybag.com on the ‘About Us’ page, so I also emailed them. The purpose of the emails was to ask them to check that the content was factually correct, and to thank them for their help. I believe courtesy is always important.
My other actions to publicise the update were a mention on my Facebook ‘status’, and an addition to our Look Lovely Facebook group page.
I posted one updated ad on Gumtree.
I ran out of time because I had to prepare for a committee meeting that I was attending in the evening. From time to time I need to remind myself that the website is not my life!
The result for Day 25 of the Quest was 8 cents! The cumulative total came to $9.46.
And we had one real surprise from Australia. We had featured a beautiful organic cotton dress from Thea & Sami, a small company based in Brisbane a few weeks ago. She emails out a newsletter to all her customers and contacts, and has included a mention of looklovely.net. This made me happier than all the money we have made this month.
