Reading a book on Power Thinking inspired me to set a goal to earn $25 from our website (looklovely.net) in the month of September. Those of you have read previous articles on this quest will know that my web partner, Tricia, worked on putting the Google ads into a new format. This format is intended to attract more of our viewers to the ads.
I have been trying every day to promote the website, to gain new viewers.
Both of us continue to work on content, to retain our viewers.
This article describes our activities on Day 26, and gives an honest report of the financial result.
In the morning of Day 26, I got up as usual to check the results of the previous day, and then hurried up to hang out washing, as I could see that it would be a sunny day.
I then attended a Pilates class lead by my website partner, Tricia. Pilates is her main source of income, and she frequently reminds me that at least we don’t have to live off our website earnings. She usually pauses, and then adds an ominous rider – the word ‘yet’.
Tricia asks all attending class to mark the register of attendance, and to make a note in her register of any dates when they anticipate they will not be able to attend. The register is kept on a table, and Tricia puts out cards for our website next to the register. I noticed that the number of cards has gone down, which seems encouraging.
When I return home, I post messages about the update to looklovely.net on two relevant Facebook groups. I also update two Gumtree ads. I will give the link for Gumtree at the bottom of this Intel. Both Facebook and Gumtree have produced viewers for us this month.
Later in the day, I go for a massage from a woman that I met at a Business Networking event a few weeks ago. She offered me a free massage in exchange for a mention on looklovely.net.
I remember to take business cards with me when leaving home, but fail to refresh my mind with the exact location of her house. Consequently I arrive late, feeling hot and stressed and much in need a relaxation.
I feel so much better after the massage that I book another one, and assure the therapist that I will pay for it! She agrees to take some of my business cards to give to clients.
The result for the day in financial terms: 22 cents from Google Adsense. This brings our cumulative total to $9.68.
I don’t think we will achieve 50% of the goal of $25 for the month. This is disappointing, so I will set a more realistic goal for October.
Looking on the bright side, our viewer numbers have improved; in fact Day 26 is the best Friday we have had since launching the website. Maybe our earnings will be at least a bit better next month.
