This is the story of Day Eight of my Quest for $25. I have set a goal to earn $25 from our website, looklovely.net. The inspiration for goal setting came from a book on Power Thinking. The primary source of income from our website is Google Adsense. We also belong to Amazon Affiliates, and are signed up with eBay.
My website partner and I both work on keeping the content of the site up-to-date, and this month I am focussing on drawing attention to looklovely.net.
I am beginning to wonder if I need to read the Power Thinking book again, as progress towards my goal has been slow. In the first week of September our earnings came to $2.01. The good news is that traffic to the site increased, so maybe there is still potential to make $25.
Greeting the new week with optimism, I continued to post ads on Gumtree.com. This is a community notice board site, with space for free ads. The site covers a good number of cities in the United Kingdom, South Africa and Australia, with links to other countries. I will give the link for this below.
Some of our increased traffic has been through Gumtree. I know this from studying the information on Google Analytics.
Tricia and I participated in a networking event on Day Six (which I described in a previous Intel piece). It is my intention to follow up leads from the event, and I made a start by taking a ‘thank you’ card and a decent bottle of wine to the home of the woman who organised it. I put a business card for the website inside the card.
I spent time working on new content for the website. Every week we publish a day-by-day guide, with suggestions to help women take care of themselves. Tricia and I plan this at least a month ahead. In the few days before publication we review the wording, and make any last minute changes before preparing it.
I also planned the colour scheme for the Home page. We change this every week, so that viewers will have the impact of something new when they log on Thursday, our ‘new edition’ day.
This week we will have a feature on Arbonne. The information for this has come from an Arbonne executive in Colorado, who has been immensely helpful. We had an email exchange to clarify a few points about photo images.
In between, I was trying to sort out several domestic issues at once. Somehow, I manage to drop one of our ‘landline’ telephones into the toilet. At least the water was clean.
Remembering my Power Thinking book, I decided to turn this event into an opportunity, and quickly wrote a brief Hub, for publication on Hub pages. I will be doing more on Hub pages this month, and will write some Intel about it.
For now, I will add a link to my latest Hub to this article.
So, did I get any nearer to my goal at the end of Day Eight? Sadly, no – income from Adsense was Absolutely Nothing. Trying to look on the bright side, I make a note that our number of unique viewers was more than it was the previous Monday.
