Reading a book on Power Thinking inspired me to set a goal to earn $25 from our website (looklovely.net) in the month of September. Those of you have read previous articles on this quest will know that my web partner, Tricia, worked on putting the Google ads into a new format. This format is intended to attract more of our viewers to the ads.
I have been trying every day to promote the website, to gain new viewers.
Both of us continue to work on content, to retain our viewers.
This article describes our activities on 4th September, and the result.
We published the updated website, as we do every Thursday. The new content was comprised of an article on sports bras, a piece on 2 dresses made from organic cotton (one from Brisbane, one from Brixham in England), and revised posture notes. As every week, we gave a new list of day by day suggestions to look after yourself.
We have a Look Lovely group on Facebook, and I updated the 'news' section with details of the new edition of the website.
My other publicity efforts were to place Gumtree ads on the pages for London, Luton and Manchester. (My article on Day 2 of the Quest describes Gumtree). I also contacted people who had sent photos or information for the new site content to thank them for their input, and to let them know that the articles were now live.
I also took advantage of opportunities that came my way.
My husband had advertised the washing machine that has been sitting in the middle of our garage for a few weeks in the local paper, and a lady came to buy it. I told her about the website, and gave her a business card.
In the afternoon, I had to go to the nearest big town to collect a pair of custom made insoles (orthotics) from Sole Solution. This is a shop that specialises in foot care, and sells shoes that support your feet.
I took a handful of business cards, and asked the manager if he would put them on the cash desk. To my surprise, he said that if I took some leaflets advertising his shop, he would put cards in with shoes that are sold! Done deal, I said.
The result for the day was an increase in viewer numbers - our best day for months. The result in terms of revenue:
18 cents.
Disappointing. The cumulative income is now $1.58, and we have 26 more days to reach the target of $25.
