After reading a book on Power Thinking, I decided to try to increase income from our website looklovely.net by setting a goal. My goal is to earn $25 in September 2008. Our main source of income is GoogleAds. We also have an Amazon Affiliates account, but so far have had little return from it.
My strategy to earn more money is to do something every day to publicise the website.
Tricia (my website partner) has contributed by putting the ads into a new format. According to her studies, this new format should attract more interest in the ads.
Both of us continue to produce new content for the website. We both enjoy this work, and we hope that by making the site interesting and useful we will encourage viewers to return.
Yesterday was Day 3. Tricia and I met in the morning so that I could take some photographs of her that we will use on the Posture Notes page. She also took some pictures of me wearing my new jacket, as we are planning a style feature to be published at the end of the month. One of our core values is to be grounded in reality, so we are using pictures of each other, rather than glamourous young models.
We also planned the content for October. Planning ahead enables us to do more research, and contact organisations and business for information.
This week we will be publishing an article on sports bras, and the on-line retailer LessBounce has sent me an interesting document on research on the effect of washing sports bras. Tricia and I both read this carefully, and realised that we had some questions.
Later in the day I telephoned LessBounce and clarified the questions. Then I finished the article, and transferred it to the 'draft website' for publication on 4th September.
I proof read all the articles and updates for the new publication.
This left little time for publicity, but I did fit in a few actions. I added notifications on the Gumtree pages for Leicester and Liverpool. I posted an item that I had sold on eBay, and included a tiny note with a business card for the website. That reminded me to update my eBay profile, so that it now includes a reference to the website.
Finally, I had a look at the recent Intel that I had posted on Qassia, and noticed that I could not see reference to the website. I flicked from page to page of Qassia, and discovered that I had not 'authenticated' the website. Darn! I had failed to read the instructions.
I have now read and followed the instructions, and vow to be more thorough in future.
So, the financial result for Day Three: 97 cents.
Hurrah! This is double Day Two (43 cents). We had no income from Day One, so our cumulative for September is $1.40.
