After reading a book on Power Thinking, I set a goal to earn $25 in September from our website looklovely.net.
Yesterday, 2nd September 2008 was Day Two of the Quest. I took action on two fronts, content and publicity.
Regarding content, I wrote an article about two dresses. Both are made from organic cotton, one is certified Fair Trade and the other is 'sweatshop free'. One dress is from a company in Brixham, Devon and the other from Brisbane. I produced this feature because Tricia and I both try to support ethical products, and we know that our readers are interested because our Fair Trade page gets a good number of views.
Also on content, I worked on the Home page, which we change every week.
At the end of the working day I received an email from one of the companies I had contacted about Sports Bras, with an attached photo and some interesting information. I shall follow this up, but by the time I had opened the email it was too late.
As for publicity, I placed ads on some more Gumtree pages.
Some of you reading this may not know about Gumtree, so I will tell you a bit more about it.
Gumtree.com was started in 2000 as a local London classified ads and community site. It is like a 'small ads' section of a traditional newspaper, but on-line.
Gumtree now covers over 60 cities across 6 countries - the UK, Ireland, Poland, Australia, New Zealand and South Aftica.
If you live in a area covered by Gumtree, try taking a look. It may not be the right medium for publicising your website, but you may find it useful for other purposes.
As Gumtree is primarily a community site, I am trying not to use it intensively to promote the website. However, our website is free to view, and we really think our content is interesting and useful. Tricia and I have discussed using Gumtree to advertise, and have decided that it is acceptable in moderation.
Yesterday we had a few hits on our site through Gumtree, and overall the number of hits was higher than the previous day.
The financial result of DAY TWO was:43 cents!
Not a lot, but infinitely better than the big fat Zero of Day One. So, 28 days and $24.57 to reach the goal.
