I have set a goal to earn $25 from our website, looklovely.net during the month of September. The earnings from the first 5 days of the month totalled $1.58.
This article describes my activities on days 20 and 21 of the Quest to earn $25, and gives an honest report of the result.
Before the month began my website partner, Tricia, carried out research in various formats for Google Ads (our main source of income), and put our ads into the format that seemed most likely to attract interest.
Both of us have worked on content throughout the month. We update the site every Thursday, and attempt to add at least two new features every week.
I have been trying to do something to promote the website every day during September, except for Sundays when I take a day off.
I did not have a lot of time to devote to publicising the website as I had several social commitments over the weekend. Tricia was totally immersed in her family.
On Saturday (Day 20) I added a new photo to a Hub that we published several weeks ago on Hub Pages. We signed up to Hubpages several months ago to increase our presence on the Internet. We both enjoy writing Hubs, as it gives us a chance to write about topics that are outside the parameters we set ourselves for looklovely.net.
We have not had much time to write and publish Hubs, and so our number there is fairly low. The Hubs that we have published have generated some traffic for looklovely.net, so I am trying to at least improve the work that we have started.
I also updated and reposted ads on the Gumtree pages for Bradford, Bristol, Cambridge and Coventry. Gumtree is an on-line community notice board. We are getting some new visitors via Gumtree, so it seems to be worth persisting with this effort.
On Saturday afternoon I went to a Pudding Party. This was wonderful. The buffet table was crowded with a stunning selection of desserts! In order to compensate for the calories, we were all invited for a walk up our local cliffs. It was one of the few days of wonderful weather that we have been favoured with this year, and being outdoors was simply blissful! I’ve attached a photo to give you an idea of the views we enjoyed. For a few hours my head was cleared of all thoughts of the website.
On Sunday (Day 21) I broke my normal rule and did a small amount of work on Gumtree ads.
We include a new selection of books from Amazon on our homepage every other week (or so). This week we will have a collection of books to read while the birds fly south. I spent some time on Day 21 selecting books and getting the html code. I consider this more fun than work.
The financial result for Day 20 was 21 cents, and for Day 21 82 cents. Our cumulative total for September is now $8.55.
I suppose it is still possible to achieve the goal of $25, but unlikely.
