Reading a book on Power Thinking inspired me to set a goal to earn $25 from our website (looklovely.net) in the month of September. Those of you have read previous articles on this Quest will know that my web partner, Tricia, worked on putting the Google ads into a new format. This format is intended to attract more of our viewers to the ads.
I have been trying every day to promote the website, to gain new viewers.
Both of us continue to work on content, to retain our viewers.
This article describes our activities on Day 27 and 28 of the Quest, and gives an honest report of the revenue earned via Google Adsense.
It is nearly the end of the month, and for many people that means Pay Day!
Now, of course the Google Adsense programme, pay day arrives when you have earned $100. Actually, it arrives sometime after passing the $100 mark, because they don’t pay until the month after that milestone has been passed. That company must have great cash flow.
However, we do notice a small effect from Pay Day, in that we usually seem to get more clicks on ads towards the end of the month. Maybe viewers are thinking something like, ‘I am about to get some money, how shall I spend it?’
We have not done anything with Adsense to test that theory, but possibly in future we might try changing our format just before the end of a month. So far, we are undecided on that.
I did not work on the looklovely.net at all on Saturday. Instead, I tried to tidy up the house, as I thought that might help my sanity. In the evening, we went to dinner with friends and had a wonderful time. It was all very relaxing.
On Sunday I try not to do any work, but to compensate for my slackness on Saturday, I reposted two Gumtree ads. I will give the link below.
I also spent time getting photos ready for October. We try to use a different picture of a flower on the Home Page every week. I take all the photos myself, and edit them using Flickr. I have a professional account with Flickr. If you have not used this site, do take a look. Again, I will give the link at the end of this Intel.
Meanwhile, Tricia, my website partner was very busy. She was building a Christmas Shop. This follows an idea she floated several weeks ago. When she first made the suggestion, I envisaged that we would both be working with hammers and nails, but this is a virtual shop (of course).
She has built an Amazon Christmas Shop. Her rationale is that many of our viewers look at our site while they are at work. Many employers have security systems that make it impossible to shop on-line from a work place computer. But, our viewers might see that we have selected Christmas give ideas, and then when they are at home, return to our website and use our shop.
In order to capitalise on our theory that people are more interested in shopping at the end of the month, she got the Christmas Shop up and running on Day 28. Actually, it was Day 28 in another time zone, but full marks to her for the time and effort involved.
Our financial result for Day 27 was 88 cents, and Day 28 was 97 cents. These are big amounts for us, bearing out the ‘Pay Day’ theory. Our total earnings for September now stand at $11.53.
