A book on Power Thinking inspired me to set targets for myself. My principle target for September was to earn $25 from the website looklovely.net that I publish with a partner. Our main source of income is GoogleAds. Tricia, my website partner put the ads into a new format that (according to other users) would yield more ‘clicks’.
Working on the basis that we would need more visitors to the site to gain more revenue, I have been trying to publicise the site to increase traffic.
I tried various routes to find more traffic for the first 11 days of September, and the revenue gained from Google Adsense over those days was $5.02.
As I was beginning to feel a bit jaded, I decided to have the week end off.
Before departing on Friday, the 12th day of the quest, I placed a few more ads on Gumtree notice boards. Gumtree is an on-line community notice board, and I will give the link at the end of this Intel.
One thing I have learned about Gumtree is that some cities have slightly different rules. For example, Belfast will not accept ‘general’ ads – they restrict placements to strictly local advertisers.
I went to Chichester with Wonderful Husband for the weekend, and met up with a pair of friends who travelled down from the north. We enjoyed ourselves with visits to historic buildings, the art gallery and the theatre. I gave little thought to the website, at least most of the time.
On return I found that the revenue for Friday was 12 cents, Saturday 10 cents and Sunday brought a more reasonable 94 cents. Total Adsense earnings at the end of Day 14 were $6.17.
The good news was that the increased visitor numbers are holding up. I had placed posts on some Facebook groups that were relevant to the most recent content of the site, and these had produced some new viewers. To my amazement, I even had a little note on Facebook from one of the new viewers to tell me that she liked the site!
So, I will keep plugging away at Facebook. Tricia (my website partner) and I originally joined Facebook because we thought it would enlarge our presence on the web. We weren’t sure what we meant, but it sounded good. The unexpected benefit is that we have made new on-line friends and learned things about other countries. We now also have more contact with distant friends and relations.
I now doubt that I shall attain the goal of $25 earnings in September, but am not ready to give up.
