Quest for $25: Final Day

Reading a book on Power Thinking inspired me to set a goal to earn $25 from our website (looklovely.net) in the month of September.

Those of you have read previous articles on this quest will know that my web partner, Tricia, worked on putting the Google ads into a new format. This format is intended to attract more of our viewers to the ads.

I have been trying every day to promote the website, to gain new viewers.

Both of us continue to work on content, to retain our viewers.

This article describes our activities on 30th September, the final day of the Quest to earn $25, and gives an honest report of the result.

Those of you who have been following my series of reports will know that there is not a cat in hell’s chance that I will earn $25 this month. I find it slightly amusing that Qassia has just published an explanation of how they will be clamping down on ‘get-rich-quick’ sites.

While I sometimes have a childish wish to get rich quick, I really believe that (apart from a major lottery win), people get rich slowly. In my case, I am making such slow progress that I will probably never be rich.

On Day 30, I took the plant that I purchased on Day 22 to Tricia’s house. Some of you may recall that I purchased the plant to use as a prop while Tricia took photos of me to illustrate an article on good posture in the garden. We were forced by domestic circumstances to postpone the photo session. Of course, the day we had originally designated as ‘photo day’ was dry and sunny. Yesterday (Day 30) was wet and cold.

Nevertheless, I wore my raincoat and a smile. Tricia has the worse part, because I was also going to take some photos of her wearing her new jacket. We were just about to go outdoors and we decided that her jacket would look better dry – so she took it off and took pictures without a coat, in the rain.

Indoors, I quickly changed my clothes so that Tricia could take some photos of me for an article that we will call ‘Stretch your Wardrobe’.

We finished the photo session in time to write a couple more weeks of our Day-by-Day guide, and for me to explain to Tricia my scribbled list of suggestions for inclusion in our Amazon Christmas Shop.

The Christmas Shop went live on Day 28. Our theory is that having a ‘shop’ may encourage people to use our selection, rather than trawling all the way through Amazon. Tricia has spent considerable time setting it up.

Tricia had other work commitments, so we had to really push to get everything accomplished in the allotted time.

Back at home; I updated a few more Gumtree ads. As mentioned before, Gumtree is a free virtual community notice board. There is a facility to ‘manage’ your ads and move them back to the top of the list. I will give the link at the foot of this Intel.

Our result for Day 30 – the princely sum of 7 cents from Google AdSense. Our goal for September was $25. The amount achieved was $11.60.
So far, nobody has clicked on anything in our Amazon Christmas shop.

We have a Look Lovely group on Facebook. The members of the group totalled 106 at the beginning of the month, and 104 at the end. This makes me a little sad.

On the bright side, our unique viewer numbers have increased significantly. I take this to signify that the publicity efforts are working.

I shall set a less ambitious goal for October. In light of the September earnings, I think that $12.50 is a realistic sum.

In October I have other calls on my time, and will concentrate on content for the website as my top priority. I will not be able to post Intel with the same frequency, but aim to report at least 3 times on progress.
