Recycling printer cartridges

24 million homes in the UK have a personal computer and most of those have printers. The average household uses 2-3 inkjet cartridges a year and many use a lot more, while most offices use large numbers of laser cartridges. Only 15 % of the 65 million printer cartridges that are sold in the UK are recycled, leaving the rest to end up in landfill sites. These little bits of plastic not only fill up landfill sites with a material which is likely to last for a thousand years, but they also take energy to manufacture from scratch, which means carbon emissions.

Recycling is such an obvious solution: the cartidges are cleaned and refilled, what could be simpler? There are lots of companies recycling these essential objects these days, including many charities, so you can do your bit for the environment while supporting your favourite charity as well, each cartidge can make from £1-£5 for the charity. On top of this, remanufactured printer cartridges can cost as little as 10% of what original cartridges do, so you also save yourself money; a win-win-win situation! There are even opportunities to be paid for cartridges, either in cash or vouchers off your next purchase.

So on environmental, charity and personal grounds, it makes sense to recycle printer cartridges.
