Retire in Bend Oregon
Bend, Oregon was recently chosen as one of the best cities in which to retire in the United States. Located in Central Oregon, on the east side of the Cascade Mountains, it is within the middle of the "high desert." The region gets very little rain compared to the western side of the state. Estimates are that the city has 300 days of sunshine each year. Among the reasons cited for its retirement haven include: low taxes (there is no sales tax in Oregon), affordable cost of living, recreational opportunities, and overall climate. For retirees, golf courses abound in Central Oregon! Many public and private courses are in the area, stretching from Sunriver to Black Butte Ranch. For more active seniors, there are a number of rivers in which to fly fish, including the Deschutes River. Many trails are within 5-10 minutes of the downtown core for hiking, biking, strolling or jogging. Winter recreation includes skiing (both downhill and cross-country), snow shoeing, snowboarding, and more! The season usually begins in November and lasts through May at the nearby Mount Bachelor. Some people choose to purchase acreage on which they can set up "hobby farms." 40-80 acre parcels are large enough to raise llamas, goats and horses. The beautiful sunshine allows for plenty of days of outdoor activities! Bend's medical facilites are among the state's best. As the region has grown in the past 15 years, many doctors have moved to the area from California, Washington and other locales to enjoy the amenities of this still relatively small city. There are plenty of great reasons to move to Bend and enjoy all that the City has to offer!
